The Alfa Spider offers customers the sensation of freedom, to drive with the open sky above you. So, for a car as exceptional as this, Alfa Romeo engineers have created two stunning petrol engines: the 3.2 JTS V6 and the 2.2 JTS. They use Twin Phaser technology (double continuous variable valve timing on the intake and exhaust valves) and deliver 260 and 185 bhp respectively. Both are highly advanced and feature the latest in engine technology.

The 3.2 JTS V6 is the most powerful engine in the entire Alfa Romeo range and is always mated to the Q4 all-wheel-drive system which features state-of-the-art technology, therefore ensuring both driving pleasure and performance.

Equally refined is the 4-cylinder 2.2 JTS with double overhead camshafts and 16 valves with a power output of 185 bhp. It is extremely light, thanks to its aluminium alloy engine block and cylinder head. Two counter-rotating shafts attenuate vibration, ensuring smooth operation more normally associated with 6-cylinder engines.

Both units are powerful and responsive, and peak torque begins to be delivered at low revving speeds (230 Nm for the 2.2 JTS and 322 Nm for the 3.2 JTS V6), for prompt, fail-safe pickup, without having to down shift.

The diesel unit is a 200 bhp 2.4 JTDM 20v. It develops a top speed of more than 228 km/h and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 8.4 seconds), yet fuel consumption is limited: in the urban cycle the car consumes 9.2 litres every 100 km, out of town this becomes 5.4 litres and in the mixed cycle it is about 6.8 litres.

The Alfa Spider’s new Multijet engine respects Euro 4 limits and incorporates a DPF (particulate trap) that eliminates fine dust, already meeting the limits currently envisaged for future Euro 5 legislation. It is a ‘for life’ system that does not need to be regenerated with additives, and will be eligible for tax incentives.
